My name is Ms. Downing, and I am so excited to be teaching FOURTH GRADE for my fourth year at RMCS! I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade because it was my favorite year of school when I was in elementary school! I can’t wait for all the exploring, learning, and fun we get to have together this year!
I love creating and getting my hands messy and I can't wait to witness our class discover and create their own masterpieces. I also love math and am in my third (and last) year of a masters program in mathematics at the University of Vermont. A goal I have this year is merging my love of art and creativity into our studies of mathematics. Do you think there is math involved in art? Can we use art and visual pieces to explain math? Lots of explorations with this to come… I also LOVE to read! My favorite book series has been Harry Potter ever since I read them when I was younger. I keep rereading them and love uncovering new mysteries!
I grew up in Essex, Vermont and have spent the majority of my life in this beautiful state. One of my favorite things about Vermont is being able to spend time with friends and family as well as enjoy its beautiful views and nature trails. My parents are moving to South Burlington this winter and my younger brother lives in Providence, Rhode Island. It’s about a 4 hour drive and I love getting to spend time in the city with him! Check out a picture above of my family with both my parents and brother, Sean!
I also have an 11-year-old goldendoodle dog named Keili, who loves to hike and trek around. We have been on some great adventures around home and even traveled up to Maine for some beach fun. She is my co-pilot on most adventures! This summer I have been fortunate enough to spend lots of on the coast in Maine, Connecticut, and Rhode Island with my family. It has been quite a relaxing environment for me to plan our fourth grade journey together.
