Our last day together has come and gone and was bittersweet. I have truly enjoyed every minute of our time together and have been in a bit of denial that our year is over! The last day was a blast together and I wanted to make sure to upload some photos from our celebration! After our whole school assembly where the 5th graders were honored and Ms. Downing got a crazy standing ovation from some of our class, we headed back to our 'red carpet' themed classroom and enjoyed some breakfast together. As we wrapped up with food, the RED CARPET AWAD CEREMONY began! Each student was, suspenseful, awarded an award acknowledging their strengths and personal growth from the year. It was a blast and one of my favorite things to do! After I finished with all the class awards, our lovely room parents presented me with your class gift and best teacher award which was the cherry on top of the perfect day! I am blown away from the generosity of all of you and the beautiful tote bag with everyone's well wishes and memories from the year together. Erin did such a beautiful job assembling the bag! As we continued to share memories and celebrate our year, I completely forgot/ran out of time to end the year the same way we started... with my FAVORITE Dr. Seuss book, Oh, The Places You'll Go! My end message to you all, is to preserve through life, because you can go anywhere that you choose! I can't wait to see everyone who is still around at Oakledge Park on Tuesday, July 23rd from 5-8 pm for one last get together before I head off on my next adventure! Thank you again for such a great year!!

We channeled our carefree spirits and spent some time finger painting today! We also spent some time reflecting on our favorite moments together this year and sharing some of our plans for the summer. Ms. downing also made everyone a deal... if you send me a postcard, I will always send one back to you! :)We enjoyed TWO balloon pop celebrations on Tuesday, as with our Monday Harry Potter Day we had run out of time! Monday's balloon revealed BUBBLE WANDS and then Tuesday's revealed FACE THE COOKIE challenges! Check out pictures in the slideshow below! What an AWESOME day! We had the perfect weather for a perfect Harry Potter Day! We started our day in the 'great hall' (gymnasium) with Professor Appleby's class to welcome the start of term with the Hogwarts School Song... like Dumbeldore says, we "picked a tune and sung!"
After our whole school meeting, we had a 'common room' meeting looking at our day's schedule. First up was WAND MAKING AT OLLIVANDERS! While we created and painted our wands, we enjoyed the beginning of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I hope some of us went home and started reading this second book! :) After wand making, we headed to the Library, but avoided going into the restricted section! As we came back to our common room, we enjoyed our snacks and then got ready for POTIONS CLASS! The potion explosions were quite a catch and fun to watch! After cleaning up our science beakers and containers, the TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT started! This tournament included Harry Potter activity packets, Capture the Dragon Egg, and a Harry Potter Trivia game! Overall, lots of house cup points were awarded from the awesome positive mindsets and sportsmanship; it was so great to see! :) After taking a break to refuel, we ended our day finishing our Trivia game and then with a few QUIDDITCH MATCHES! After all the hard work, we enjoyed some delicious golden snitch cake pops that Mrs. Burkhardt made special for us! Overall, I think all students (and teachers) had a blast! Let's see what's in store over these last few days... With only 6 days left, and today being a half day, our balloon pop revealed a defying gravity balloon game! We had a blast, but were interrupted by Mrs. Gilmore bursting in with mysterious letters! They revealed that we will be going to Hogwarts on Monday! Make sure you take a look at the letters and tickets that they are bringing home! Let's see what Monday reveals!
With only 7 DAYS left of 4th grade, we enjoyed the beautiful weather outside for morning book groups, hunted for squirmy bugs in logs during our last hands on nature, and then wrapped up our day with our balloon pop surprise... competing in cup stacking challenges! I think some people found a new favorite hobby! : ) Olivia's balloon pop revealed our MARKER DAY celebration! We exchanged all of our pencils for markers and used them throughout the day! We even had a few 'drop everything and doodle' moments thrown in there! How fortunate were we to have the green paper on our tables from Vermont night still?!
We had such a fun day with only 9 days left! Students ended their days enjoying munching on our state in the form of sugar cookie! Our first annual Vermont Night was also a great success! Thanks to all the families that came and helped us celebrate all of out learning around our beautiful state throughout this year!
